Fracking pollutes water, makes it unusable and will eventually make it more expensive.? On the positive side, fracking for natural gas gives the US plenty of energy and creates jobs.
But using renewable energy sources has all the same benefits, but none of the environmental and health issues.
It is a fact that “The byproducts of fracking are far worse than the relatively low cost of natural gas.”
So it would be nice to think of your children and grandchildren and transition away from fracking which is an awful form of energy that:
- Uses 8 MILLION gallons of water per fracking
- 72 TRILLION gallons of water used for current wells
- Uses 40,000 gallons of chemicals for each well
- Waste fracking fluid consists of 600 chemicals including known carcinogens and toxins such as lead, benzene, uranium!,?radium!, mercury, hydrochloric acid…
During the fracking process these chemicals, methane gas and radioactive particles pollute nearby ground water. 90% of the water used (currently 72 trillion gallons!) is never returned to the water cycle. This reduces water available for food crops, cooking, washing and raises prices.
“A 2014 study conducted by the Colorado Department of Environmental and Occupational Health found that mothers who live near fracking sites are 30 percent more likely to have babies with congenital heart defects.”
Biofuels like methanol, ethanol and dimethyl ether can all be make from plant material, municipal waste, and even CO2. And in case of a leak or spill, they will naturally biodegrade in days or weeks.
